TEMPUR®: Creators Of Comfortable

TEMPUR®: Creators Of Comfortable

TEMPUR® has a long history of making mattresses that are out of this world. As you lie down on a TEMPUR® mattress, billions of ultra-sensitive open cells existing between a solid and liquid state respond to your body’s shape, weight and warmth to specifically adapt. This could be the reason that these high density foam mattresses are so sought after. With a reputation for producing the world's most coveted visco elastic foam, this Danish company is largely responsible for memory foam mattresses as we know them today.

What is the history of TEMPUR®?

The story began in the late 1960’s when NASA scientists and engineers were tasked with creating a new foam material to help support and absorb G-force pressure during lift-off and space flight. Come the 1970’s, news of this unique material reached the ears of TEMPUR®’s Swedish founders. They soon realised this NASA foam had the potential to provide support and comfort for healthcare patients.

In 1988, the TEMPUR®’s team further refined the original material, and after two years of extensive testing, the original TEMPUR Material™ was created. TEMPUR® made history in 1991 by launching the first viscoelastic mattress and pillow. With unmatched pressure relief and adaptability, TEMPUR Material™ redefined comfort—and it’s now found in bedrooms worldwide. At that moment in time, TEMPUR® rewrote the rules about how a high quality mattress and pillow should feel.

Why is TEMPUR Material™ different from a regular foam bed?

A memory foam bed is well known for being excellent at conformance and providing pressure-relieving properties. Unlike ordinary foams, viscoelastic foam like TEMPUR® 's patented material is both fluid and spring-like. Viscoelastic foam responds slowly and softly, cradling your body with minimal bounce for a deep, cushioned feel with minimal motion transfer. It absorbs motion rather than transferring it, which is especially helpful if you share a bed.

While many memory foams can feel similar at first, TEMPUR Material™ has a distinct, slow response feel that sets it apart. It gently cradles your body rather than pushing back, reducing pressure points and helping muscles fully relax. Unlike a standard foam bed, it doesn’t just compress under weight, it precisely conforms and supports the body.

Foam bed vs. Spring mattress

When comparing a foam bed to spring mattresses, it really comes down to what kind of sleep experience you’re after. Traditional spring mattresses have been around for decades, and many people still prefer the familiar feel of coil support. They can also offer good airflow, which is why they appeal to those who like a cooler, more lifted sleep.

Foam mattresses such as TEMPUR®’s mattresses respond to your body’s shape, weight, and temperature—providing a unique sense of weightless support. Instead of pushing back like springs, TEMPUR Material™ is more of a pressure relieving mattress that gently conforms to you, relieving pressure points and minimising motion transfer. It’s ideal for people who want less bounce and more body-hugging comfort.

TEMPUR® has also developed a new material based on the original that addresses the concern of breathability. The new TEMPUR® Pro Air Material™ is their most breathable memory foam mattress yet. Exclusive to Snooze, the TEMPUR® Pro Air™ range helps you sleep up to 2 degrees cooler**

Benefits of sleeping on a TEMPUR® mattress

If you’re used to sleeping on a spring mattress, a TEMPUR® or ‘NASA mattress’ as some like to call it, feels a bit different from the first time you lie on it (and that’s kind of the point). Instead of pushing back like a traditional mattress, it gently moulds to your body, offering support where you need it and easing pressure where you don’t. It’s not just about comfort; it’s about helping your body rest with an almost weightless feel, so you wake up feeling more rested.

  • Pressure relief – TEMPUR Material™ adapts to your body, reducing pressure points and enhancing comfort.
  • Motion absorption – Minimises partner disturbance by isolating movement across the bed.
  • Personalised support – Responds to your weight, shape, and temperature for personalised support.
  • Reliable structure – Engineered to maintain its shape and performance over time without sagging.
  • NASA-developed technology – Originated from space-grade material designed for support under extreme conditions.
  • Allergy-conscious design – Designed to help reduce exposure to dust mites and allergens.

TEMPUR® Pro Air™, exclusive to Snooze

Experience the latest in sleep innovation with the TEMPUR® Pro Air, available only at Snooze. Designed with improved airflow, pressure relief, and adaptive comfort, it’s TEMPUR’S most breathable and responsive mattress yet, tailored to help you sleep cooler and more comfortably all night long.
