Bedroom style, Decorate
A coastal bedroom style, in four fabulous designs
Ever wondered what your favourite interior style is? If you like the idea of airy fabrics, open space and beachy accents, coastal style may be the one for you. The style is light and breezy, with a soft palette that’s inspired by the sand and shells and sea and sky. Windows are big for optimum sunshine and fabrics are simple, soft and comfortable. Think cotton rugs, sheer curtains that billow in the wind, plenty of timber and nautical accents like shells, sea grass and wooden beads.
To help you create a coastal bedroom that promises sun-filled mornings, breezy afternoons and warm evenings (even when summer is over) we created the Ocean Grove bedroom furniture collection. Simple and understated, this stunning range features smooth, hand-washed wood, that is reminiscent of a salt-kissed boardwalk.
“We were looking to create a breezy, beachy design. Perfect for that coastal style look, which is relaxed and unfussy.” Adrian Galiazzo, National Furniture Category Manager.
Inspired by the trend of bringing barn doors into the home, we began with our cross thatch look. We then incorporated a plantation shutter design, which has been synonymous with a breezy, coastal look for decades from Ocean Grove in Victoria to the Hamptons in New York.
"Knowing that our customers are always looking for storage options, we designed the Ocean Grove Feature bed frame. The shelf is a great spot for your favourite book, a cup of tea, or your collection of hand-picked shells"
To complete the range, the Ocean Grove Block bed frame was recently introduced. Simplistic in design yet sturdy in structure, this bed is all about generous proportions and solid wood.
Like all the Ocean Grove bed frames and bedroom furniture, the Block is made from Australian hardwood (Brownwash) or a tropical hardwood called Mindi (Whitewash and Mocha). The timber is wire-brushed, then hand-painted and hand-finished by skilled craftsmen. Similar in density to Red Oak, Mindi timber is generally resistant to decay and fungus and is favoured by woodworkers for its workability. The Whitewash and Mocha timber for the Block bed frame is foraged from the forest floor, then ‘sliced’, or crown cut, to create a natural feature grade veneer.
You can read about our responsible timber sourcing policy here.
When we were designing the Ocean Grove Block bed frame, a solid construction really mattered to us so you’ll find the foundations are quite tough. Using the same quality construction methods, the slats are made from pine and feature a solid timber centre rail, which may help with the longevity of your mattress.
We also spent a lot of time on the finish, because we wanted the collection to look coastal in a fairly unique way. To achieve the look, each piece from the Ocean Grove bedroom collection is lightly wire brushed by hand then flooded with paint. The paint (either white, white with a brown tint or mocha) is then wiped off by hand, leaving the timber soft and smooth to touch.
The Ocean Grove Block bed frame has real substance and is as solid as it looks. In fact, the ledge at the foot end of the bed is the perfect spot to sit to put your shoes on. Be our guest, take a seat!
