Snooze was born in 1974 under the trading name Capt’n Snooze. While the name may be considered outdated now, our original belief that the bedroom is the most important room in the house remains the same.
From humble beginnings, Capt’n Snooze started with just one Melbourne store, one of the first specialist bed stores in the country. As demand grew, so did the store count, and it was soon time for Capt’n Snooze to spread its cape across Victoria and into New South Wales.
In 1992 Capt’n Snooze arrived in Queensland and impressed locals with its signature bedroom expertise and personalised bedroom options. Soon after, with much to conquer, Capt’n Snooze joined forces with franchised bedding group, Bedpost, creating one of the world’s largest franchised specialist bedding chains.
Now called, Snooze, many of our 80+ stores are nationally owned and operated by local Franchisees, and we still offer that wholesome warmth with all the benefits of 48 years of experience in the bedroom.
In addition to our love of all thing’s bedroom, we’ve evolved to give back to the community that has trusted in us for many years.
We’re always looking for ways to support our local communities, tradespeople and suppliers by championing Australian-made products. Over 70% of our range is locally developed, and we continually partner with leading Australian brands.
As if we were right back in 1974, we source wool, cotton, and alpaca fleece directly from local farmers and responsibly source a range of stunning local timber from one of the world’s most beautiful country sides, ours.
We’re honoured to be working alongside an outstanding Australian charity, The Smith Family. Empowering children through education, the Smith Family aims to ensure disadvantaged children are given access to long-term education support, providing them with the best chance of reaching their full potential.
Together with The Smith Family, our goal is to improve access to education, retention, and academic achievement for these Australian students from disadvantaged backgrounds so they can create a better future.
We’re passionate about creating long-lasting relationships with our local brand partners, suppliers, and manufacturers. We love that some of Australia’s best products and materials are made right here. Whether it’s the quality mattresses we’ve come to expect from Sealy, inspired fabric designs by Warwick Fabrics, meticulous craftsmanship that goes into our local bedroom furniture range, or supporting local mattress brands like SleepTailor®, Madison and Slumberland, few things make us prouder than working alongside our fellow Australian businesses.
Many of our 80 stores are owned and operated by local franchisees. Often family-run, Snooze stores support locals in more ways than one. Each of our wonderful franchisees is passionate about offering support and helping solve the secret of a better night’s sleep for members of their local community.
As the saying goes: it’s a journey, not a destination. We take our responsibility to the planet, people and profitability seriously and continue to grow and evolve our processes to minimise our environmental impact at every possible touch-point.
The Snooze team is committed to consciously creating our Australian-made products from farm to factory floor. We’re mindfully using renewable fibres, responsibly-sourced sustainable materials and transitioning our packaging from single-use plastic to recyclable.
Suprelle® Blue is one bedding fibre we’re excited about. It’s quality and made entirely from recycled plastic bottles diverted from landfill and exclusively collected by Plastic Bank®. Plastic Bank® builds ethical recycling ecosystems in underprivileged coastal communities. Empowering locals by offering premium payment or services in return for collected plastic waste. Suprelle® Blue can enable us to create luxurious bedroom comfort with a lasting environmental, social, and economic impact.
Snooze uses responsibly sourced fabrics like Tencel™ and offers Tencel™ and cotton sheet and quilt cover sets that conform to the OEKO-TEX Textile Standard 100. This initiative is responsible for ensuring each product thread has been tested for harmful substances to help prevent harm to your overall health and wellbeing. Our Organic Stone Washed Cotton range is GOTS (Global Textile Standard) certified. GOTS is the leading textile processing standard for organic fibres worldwide, which includes various ecological and social criteria backed by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.
We’re also pleased to share that the cardboard packaging for our bedding range is 100% recyclable and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) for the responsible management of forest resources.
We offer beautifully crafted bedroom furniture that uses recycled timbers, and all other timber sourced and used in our furniture range is PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification), approved and certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international non-profit organisation promoting the responsible management of the world’s forests.
Snooze aspires to continually innovate in how we look after our planet as we look for the latest and best-quality sustainable fabrics, processes and materials.
