COUNTRY AND COASTAL STYLING FOR SLUMBERLAND
Many of us love our home to reflect the lifestyle we live and many of us love a lifestyle that involves the great & spectacular Australian outdoors (even when it’s cold and wintery outside!)
When you consider that more than 8 in 10 Australians* live within 50 kilometres of the coastline of Australia it’s not surprising that beach style has become a favorite theme in many a home.
No, we’re not necessarily talking about the traditional or cliché beach house theme of the late 80’s or 90’s when coastal styling involved a resin shell covered toilet seat, and an obligatory blue and yellow striped dining set….
We’re talking about coastal style with a fresh and modern feel.
Here’s how we do it:
If there’s one thing coastal houses share it’s an abundance of natural light & sense of openness. Windows, skylights, glass panels or replacing solid doors with French doors, are all ways of increasing natural light. Mirrors and reflective surfaces give the impression of even more light when windows are limited. Even lightening the colour of your ceiling can help reflect the light & open the room.
Slumberland’s Coastal style is simple & fresh - blue & white linen contrasts against the shadow headboard. The Ornate headboard is simple yet elegant and stylish and really makes a statement in this setting.
In line with this simplicity we chose pendant lighting to compliment the headboard. Pendant lights are great for so many reasons – not only do they look modern and provide the perfect pool of soft light, but they also free up valuable tabletop or bedside space – which ultimately means less clutter!
Snooze Loves – Hannah Nowlan & Grain of Descent
To get that real beachy vibe invest in some coastal inspired art. We love local artist Hannah Nowlan & her Ocean Series art, influenced by growing up in surf culture of Victoria’s coast. Alternatively you can bring surf to the bedroom with a beautiful timber surfboard like this one from Grain of Descent. Our blue and white colour palette pair perfectly with the timber frame & surfboard.
We also adore natural macramé wall hangings so this one by Linen House is just perfect to hang above the bed! The inclusion of greenery to a room, adds a sense of calm, in particular when the other tones within the room are soft & muted.
Finally a few decorator items around your bedroom finish off the coastal look – a straw hat, some vintage glass bottles, slow living books & of course a small drift wood sculpture! Who wouldn’t feel relaxed and at ease in these surroundings!
