If your kids are sitting around looking bored and glum these school holidays, perhaps you could suggest they turn their bedroom from ho-hum into heaps of fun with these 5 decorating ideas from Snooze. Not only will it keep them busy, it will add a bit of style and fun to their bedrooms. Remember, before you start, it’s always a good idea to clean up your child’s bedroom, which is always a satisfying thing to do! Make sure they help with the cleaning and tidying or, better still, hand over the vacuum and duster and get them to do it themselves!
If there’s a large, blank wall in your kids’s bedroom, some simple wall art is a great decorating idea, like the one shown above, is an instant brightener and styler! You can create the art yourself with a few pieces of cardboard and scissors, or you can purchase pre-made wall art. We like the idea of making it yourself so that way, your kids can helo with the design and the production! Draw up the idea first, or browse the internet for some fun designs. Once you’ve decided on the design, purchase coloured paper or cardboard and get cutting!
To add instant style and fun to your kid’s bedroom, simply refresh their quilt cover and pillowcase. It’s amazing what a difference a new quilt cover set can make, particularly if you choose a fun, bright style. With a few bright cushions, soft toys and a throw rug, their room will almost look brand new! Check out the cute range of kids’ bedding, including sheet sets and quilt cover sets, at your local Snooze store.
Another fun and easy way to brighten and refresh your child’s bedroom is with a bed canopy and colourful bunting. Design and make your own canopy or head out to your favourite store and purchase one. As for bunting it’s fun and easy to make and means you can choose the colours, style and length. You can have alternate colours, or stripes and spots, or include photographs or other print outs on each triangle. When you’re finished, hang it up across a wall, shelf or window.
Actually, let your kids paint their wall! If you feel a bit nervous about this idea, cover a blank wall with a large sheet of paper, put a drop sheet on the ground, and let your little Picasso fill it with colour! An idea that’s guaranteed to look wonderful is their little handprints spotted all over the wall (or paper). Alternatively, you could paint a large area of the wall with blackboard paint, then let them create a new piece of artwork every day, or every hour!
When it comes to making mobiles, there are no rules! The hanging items can be made of anything; felt, paper, wood, metal, recycled items, photos, images from books, print outs, finger puppets, origami animals or simple shapes cut out of coloured paper. Once you’ve made your pieces, you simply hang them from a round mobile hanger, and hang them over your child’s bed, in front of window (where they’ll catch the light), or above a reading or play area. These wonderful mobiles will keep your child busy for hours and brighten up their room for months!
