Maintaining your bedroom

At Snooze, we pride ourselves on offering the best range of furniture sourced from quality furniture makers, and we believe it’s important that you know how to care for it so you can enjoy it for years to come.

Below are some tips to help you keep your furniture in the best possible condition, a guide to finding out whether it’s time to replace your mattress, and information about product warranty.

Timber Care

Timber is a natural product, therefore mineral streaks, grain variation, colour variations and other markings add to the character and beauty of the product. No two trees are alike so such variations are not considered manufacturing faults.
  • Keep your furniture away from excessive heat (eg heaters) and direct sunlight as this can cause cracking and discoloration or fading to fabrics, leathers and timber finishes.
  • Liquids and items such as damp cloths should not remain in contact with surfaces for long periods of time.
  • Do not allow abrasives, solvent or heated objects to come into contact with the furniture
  • Dust surfaces with a duster or wipe gently with a clean damp cloth. Do not use silicone based polishes or cleaners.
  • When moving furniture, never drag the pieces across the floor as this can cause damage to the joints. In the case of moving house, beds should be disassembled for removal.

Mattress Care

By caring for your mattress you’ll ensure you have a more comfortable night’s sleep for a longer period of time. Some easy and effective ways you can do this include:
  • Don’t remove the label as it will serve as important information for any warranty or claim;
  • Invest in a good quality mattress protector from Snooze to keep your bed fresh and clean – it prevents your mattress from harboring dead skin cells and body fluids;
  • Turn your mattress regularly to equalise the wear and tear;
  • Don’t bend or fold your mattress or let the kids jump on it as this could damage the interior construction; and
  • Don’t soak or dry clean the mattress. Snooze recommends vacuuming, or using a mild soap and water solution for stain removal.
Is it time to replace your mattress and base?

Hold onto your mattress for too long and you may wake feeling agitated and lethargic and suffer aches, pains and pins and needles. A suitable mattress will promote a healthy night’s sleep leaving you feeling refreshed, energetic and ready to take on the busy day ahead.

Does your bed sag, squeak or smell? Ask yourself the following questions to find out if it’s time to replace your bed.
  • Do you wake up with a sore back, hips or shoulders?
  • Do you toss and turn all night, unable to find that comfortable spot?
  • Do you roll into the middle of the bed?
  • Do the springs in your mattress squeak?
  • Is the fabric on your mattress starting to fray or show signs of wear?
  • Does your mattress sag or show deep body impressions?
  • Does your bed feel too firm?
  • Do you wake up with pins and needles?
  •  Is your mattress and base more than 10 years old?
  • Can you feel the bed springs when you lie down?
  • Are there any unpleasant odours coming from your mattress?
  • Are there bed bugs in your mattress?
  • Have your circumstances changed, requiring space for a bigger or smaller bed?
  • Have your lifestyle circumstances changed and your preference is for twin beds?
  • Are your children are growing up and ready for a bigger bed or more support?

For problems that fall outside the manufacturer’s warranty period or conditions, Snooze can recommend and arrange for a qualified furniture repairer to assist you – though costs may be involved.
